Just In Case You Did Miss Our Top 5 Energy Efficient Blog Posts Of The Year...Here's A Re-Cap...

    2011: A Year Of Tremendous Website GrowthHovey-Electric-Power-Blog-Top-5-Energy-Efficient-Blog-Posts-2011

This past year has seen tremendous growth in our website. We have had over 11,700 visitors this year compared to just under 1000 in 2010 and less that 50 in 2009.  Blogging has been a major contributor to our success in attracting visitors to our website.

We have proven that even though we specialize in industrial electrical services, you can provide an educational platform and successfully build a following online. We have just scratched the surface with our 79 (...this one is 80) blogs. We continue to learn more and more each day about energy efficiency and plan on continuing to provide you with more educational content in the New Year.

Since our blog did so well for us this year, I thought I would take a few minutes during this quiet week between Christmas and New Years and summarize the 5 most popular blog posts of 2011.  These 5 blogs had just under 3,700 visits over the past year or roughly about 37% of our total traffic for the year.

Just in case you missed them, here they are (just click on the title to got to the article):

1.Energy Efficient Lighting:400 Watt Metal Halide vs. T-5 High Bay

Our most popular post because of the inefficient 400 watt Metal Halide.  This article does a great job of comparing the difference in the cost of operating the 400 watt Metal Halide vs. the T-5 High Bay.

    2. How to Calculate Total Fixture Wattage for Fluorescent Lighting

Understanding how to calculate the cost of wattage is one of the basic principles in determining the practicality of an energy efficient upgrade.  This article shows how to calculate the energy cost of an entire fluorescent lighting system.

    3. Energy Efficient Lighting:Calculate the Cost of a 23 Watt Light Bulb

This article was written to take energy efficiency to a level that most consumers can relate to.  Most people get the deer in the headlights look when we start talking about the calculations.  This article shows how calculate the cost of a typical 100 watt incandescent replacement bulb, something that most people can relate to.

    4. How to "Drive" Down Energy Costs with VFD's for Motor Efficiency

We haven't talked too much about motor efficiency, but this article looks at how variable frequency drives can really make a difference in the cost of operating an electric motor.  Lighting efficiency is easier to make a case for because you can often see the difference.  Motors on the other hand are somewhat in the background.

Motors are one of the most overlooked opportunities for energy efficient improvements in a facility.

    5. Why You Should Compare Inductive Fluorescents vs Metal Halide vs T5HO

Inductive fluorescents were a new technology that we worked with this past year.  We did a major install of exterior lighting by replacing 1000 Watt Metal Halide fixtures with 250 watt inductive fluorescents.  This article compares the metal halide fixtures with inductive fluorescents and T5 High Bays.

Did You Download Our FREE E-book?

These are just 5 of the great articles we put together this year.  Our most popular download was our FREE E-book: Business Owners Guide To Energy Efficiency-Lighting.  This E-book is intended to help business owners sort out the facts from the bs some vendors are selling who just simply want to sell a certain product.

We provide an objective viewpoint for business owners looking to understand more about energy efficiency.

Tell Us What You Want To Read About In The New Year...

We are putting together our editorial calendar for 2012 and would love to have some direction from you to help us provide the best information for our readers.  Please leave us a topic you would like to learn more about in our comments section below.

Please have a safe and happy New Year!
