Why Is Energy Efficiency Important To Employee Productivity?

    Can Lighting Impact Employee Productivity?

Energy Efficient Lighting Is More Than A Brighter Business

In the past, the only considerations business organizations had in regards to interior lighting energy-efficient-lighting-and-employee-productivitywere to illuminate the space that is void of sufficient natural lighting.

The fluorescent bulb dominated every industry and office space from the production line to the warehouse and even the boardroom.

Today, there are many state-of-the-art lighting systems in the marketplace that help businesses effectively illuminate the workplace.

The IESNA (Illuminating Engineering Society of North America) provides quality lighting solutions for various industries. They established quantitative lighting criteria in support of specific tasks and environments.

For example, the correct light for working with paper documents is different than working on a computer. Employees who work face-to-face in teams have different tasks than detail work on an assembly line.

    Lighting Tailored to Individual Workers

Lighting is also becoming tailored to the worker with dimmer switches and task lighting that can be adjusted by each individual.

Integrated lighting controls are also entering the construction and refurbishment of business offices.  These controls automatically adjust the lighting according to various work tasks and environments.

The controls are pre-programmed and function automatically via on-line with occupancy sensors that determine when to turn the lights off; this has been a major contribution in energy conservation.

Lighting Responsible for 20-25% of Nations Energy Consumption

The Energy Efficient Lighting Association (EELA) reports that 20-25 percent of the country’s energy consumption is due to lighting; and 50 percent of that bill comes from industrial and commercial buildings.

Energy codes are becoming more restrictive with California leading the way.  The end results are truly beneficial to businesses.

As more companies transform their workspace with energy efficient lights, they have discovered a direct correlation between an eco-friendly system, improved employee morale and productivity, lower energy bills and higher profits.
